Geelong Writers invites writers to submit to our 2023 General Anthology.

This year the anthology will include five categories:

  • Short story (up to 1,500 words)
  • Memoir (up to 1,500 words)
  • Flash fiction (up to 300 words)
  • Poetry (up to 300 words)
  • Dystopian fiction (prose up to 1,500 words; poetry up to 300 words)

The short story, memoir, poetry, and dystopian fiction categories do not have a set theme.

The submission deadline is midnight Wednesday 31 May 2023.

Submissions will be blind assessed by an panel of experienced writers and the best works published.

Submission Guidelines:

  • Entry is free for Geelong Writers members. Become a member here
  • There is a $15 entry fee per submission per category for non-members; $5 for a second submission in each category. Payment can be made via bank transfer;    
  • Submissions are restricted to two pieces per genre per author. Authors can submit a total of up to 10 pieces across the five genres (two per genre). We will not accept all 10 in one genre;
  • All submissions must use Times New Roman font;
  • All must use 12-point font size;
  • Double spacing (exceptions with concrete poetry);
  • Pages must be numbered;
  • Our house style is Australian Standard: singular quotations and Australian spelling;
  • Your name should not appear anywhere on your work;
  • Submit work via our form as a word document (.doc or docx format);
  • Simultaneous submissions are allowed, but you must inform us if a piece is accepted elsewhere;
  • No previously published work allowed (personal blog and social media posts excepted).
